Every activity in speech & debate is incredibly expensive. It's near-impossible to participate in a national circuit tournament without paying $100 or more in entry fees. Travelling to national championships can involve thousands of dollars in airfare and hotel accomodations. Most top notch summer camps charge $2,000 or more for a 2-week residential OR online program. Even the entry fees from local tournaments add up to a substantial sum. 

Ultimately, it's far too difficult for dedicated, talented, and underprivileged students to reach their full potential as speakers, debaters, and communicators.
